Tour Description:

A day tour from Edinburgh to explore the essence of the West Highlands of Scotland, taking in some of the best scenic mountains, lochs and castles; a stop in the picturesque town of Oban and the chance to visit either Dunstaffnage or Inveraray Castle.

Leaving Edinburgh we travel via Stirling, viewing Stirling Castle, perched high on its volcanic rock, and pass through the historic town of Doune, whose famous castle was the film location for the comedy 'Monty Python & The Holy Grail'. After a coffee stop near Callander we continue our climb into the Western Highlands via Tyndrum.

Moving further west, we pass Dalmally village, where the river Orchy flows into Loch Awe then we make a stop for lunch in the pretty fishing town of Oban, with its horseshoe bay.

After lunch we can choose to explore either Dunstaffnage Castle or Inveraray Castle*, historic seat of the Duke of Argyll. On our return journey we can pause to admire the spectacular Kilchurn Castle, majestically situated on Loch Awe and spectacularly framed by mountains.

In Inverarary we can explore its white-washed Georgian houses, wide streets and views across the shores of Loch Fyne before we commence our return journey over the 'Rest and Be Thankful'; pausing for a brief stop in the conservation village of Luss, Loch Lomond, before heading back to Edinburgh.

Please note: Our current brochure contains an error in the original itinerary which includes Doune Castle. The current tour does not visit Doune Castle - we wish to apologise for any inconvience this may cause.
