Tour Theme: Edinburgh Day Tours (Group Tours)
This tour starts from: Edinburgh
Duration: 1 Day - 9 hours 45min approx.
Stirling Castle/Loch Lomond and Deanston Distillery
This tour is the Scottish experience 'distilled'. It will give you a taste of three classic Scottish ingredients . castles, lochs and whisky. Because we aren't venturing too far afield, it is the perfect trip for those who don't want to hurry, but want to really savour the rich flavours of this beautiful country.
As you drive north out of Edinburgh you'll be amazed by the engineering miracle of the Forth Railway Bridge. Then, as you are travelling through Stirlingshire, our guide will bring to life the turbulent times of William Wallace - dramatised in the film Braveheart - and explain his link to the countryside you're passing through.
Explore Stirling Castle and City. We'll stop at the beautiful city of Stirling. You'll have ample time to explore the stunning castle* or stroll through the beautiful and ancient streets that surround it. Or perhaps you’d prefer to climb the 246 step spiral staircase to the top of The Wallace Monument* which commemorates the Scottish hero Sir William Wallace and offers stunning views over Stirling, the Ochil hills and the Forth Valley.
A taste of Scottish Spirit at Deanston. Next stop is Doune, your lunch-time stop. You'll have the chance to visit one of Scotland's most unique distilleries, a 180 year old cotton mill that was transformed into a distillery in the 1960’s. It sits, perched on the River Teith, and offers you the chance to learn how they make their whisky and try a dram of their Highland Single Malt Whisky*. Or if whisky is not your thing, you could visit the nearby Doune Castle, a popular filming location which has featured in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Game of Thrones and Outlander. Another option would be to make the focus of your stop here the Buttercup Cafe - with delicious food and drinks it’s a great place to enjoy lunch.
Past Scotland’s biggest Loch and through the National Park. Our route then takes you over the Dukes Pass where you will experience dramatic views of the Trossachs National Park and its Lochs, home of the Highland rogue Rob Roy. We then make our way to Aberfoyle, a small holiday village at the heart of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. Finishing off our time in Loch Lomond, we visit the beautiful loch side village of Balmaha and then may our journey back to Edinburgh.
