Tour Description

Breakaway from the crowded tours of the cruise ship and join Go Scotland Tours on a private tour to Glasgow from Greenock. All our private tours are offered with Qualified Blue Badge Tourist Guides. After a half day city tour we then go to Auchentoshan Distillery and Loch Lomond.

Your personal guide will meet you at the security check point of Greenock Cruise Port at 9am (depending on when your ship is in). In the morning we will enjoy a half day city tour of Glasgow. Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland and the country’s cultural hub. It is a city full of architectural history from the great Victorian buildings of the Merchant City to the modern Clyde Waterfront.

We begin with a visit to Glasgow Cathedral. It is the oldest still intact church on mainland Scotland. The surroundings was once the medieval town centre with a castle and defensive wall. The only buildings that still stand from this time are the cathedral and Provand's Lordship, the oldest town house in Glasgow. All this has the eary backdrop of the Necropolis (city of the dead), an 18th cemetery encompassing some very interesting tombs and statues.

Then we will go on a panoramic tour of Glasgow passing by its most important attractions, such as George Square, Glasgow Green, Clyde Waterfront and University of Glasgow. Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum was funded by the profits made by the Glasgow Exhibition in 1888 celebrating Glasgow as the Second city of the Empire. Built in Spanish Baroque style using Dumfriesshire red sandstone recently restored. We will stop here for lunch.

After lunch we then take a drive to Loch Lomond; the largest lake in Great Britain. It is known worldwide from its song about the Bonnie Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond. We visit the quant village of Luss, which sits on the banks of Loch Lomond.

Our last stop of the day is Auchentoshan Distillery. Unique because it is Triple Distilled rather than the traditional two. A lowland malt with a distinct orange peel like flavour and light smooth taste. These types of whisky are referred to as a 'Breakfast Whisky', fit for the time of day.

Arrive back to Greenock at approx. 5pm.
