Tour Description

This day tour from Invergordon Cruise Port gives a truely Highland experience in just one day. With highlights of two very different castles, a battlefield, Loch Ness, dramatic scenery and even the chance to spot wildlife - maybe even Nessie herself!!!

Our tour leaves the port of Invergordon via the picturesque and historic town of Beauly, home to an amazing 13th century abbey. This tour gives a comprehensive Highland experience while returning you to the ship in plenty of time.

The first castle on our tour is Urquhart Castle. Sitting on the famous Loch Ness - one of Scotland's jewels. Will be lucky enough to see Nessie? Perched on the banks of the Loch, Urquhart Castle's dramatic ruins dominate the water it has guarded for centuries. We tour the castle and hear about its colourful history.

We now travel through the pretty Highland capital of Inverness, which sits on the banks of the river Ness. Here you will have some free time to explore the city and have lunch.

After we go to Culloden, the site of the last pitched battle on the British mainland. Here, in 1746, all hope of Bonnie Prince Charlie taking the British throne was lost and the bloody aftermath changed Highland culture forever. Your guide will then take you onto the battlefield and tell you the struggle of the Jacobites.

Our tour now takes us to Cawdor Castle. In the Shakespeare play it was home to MacBeth, today it is the home of the Dowager Countess of Cawdor. We tour this delightful castle which gives a unique combination of historical castle and warm family home. The gardens also offer plenty of inspiration to those with green-fingers!!!

Returning to Invergordon we travel along the banks of the Cromarty Firth, hoping to spot some seals, to arrive at our first visit of the day, Culloden Battlefield.
