This tour starts from: Edinburgh or Glasgow
Duration: 4 Days / 3 Nights
Spend a memorable christmas in Scotland with Spectacular views, a true winter wonderland.
Day 1: December 24
Hear the history of Edinburgh’s old and new towns as we leave Edinburgh and journey to Scotland’s largest city Glasgow.
Then it’s on to Loch Lomond, speckled with over 40 islands, this is the U.K.’s largest loch. We stop at Luss, boasting a beautiful beach area; this quaint village is the perfect place for a coffee and a stroll. We then head north through the Great Moor of Rannoch; one of the last remaining wildernesses in Europe.
We will stop in Glen Coe, known as The Weeping Glen, this eerie but beautiful place will come alive when your guide tells you about the terrible massacre that took place here. You will then be able to explore and have lunch in Fort William the outdoor capital of the U.K. which lies in the shadow of the U.K.’s tallest mountain: Ben Nevis.
After lunch we journey over "the road to the isles” stopping for photos at Eilean Donan Castle. Perched upon a small tidal island where three lochs meet it is one of the most recognisable castles in Scotland. We then cross over to the Isle of Skye where we will be staying in the picturesque village of Kyleakin for 2 nights. Tonight our Christmas celebration includes live local musicians and a party into the wee hours with the locals.
Day 2: December 25
After a leisurely late brunch we will take a stunning drive to Tarskavaig, regarded as one of the finest short drives in Scotland. From the sandy beach here you’ll get spectacular views to the inner Isles of Rum and Canna and over the mountains of Skye.
This is a place of peace and tranquillity where you can enjoy the complete silence and calm which this island offers. We will then return for our mid-afternoon traditional Christmas banquet and party with live local entertainment. Perhaps a visit from a celebrity!
Day 3: December 26
Today, after a late breakfast we will have more time to explore the island, heading towards the very top this time. We’ll stop in Portree, the capital of Skye, for a light lunch. With its picturesque coloured houses this is a great place to take photos and explore the harbour. We’ll then continue on to see the Old Man of Storr.
The ‘Old Man’ is a giant pinnacle of rock that stands defiant and can be seen for miles around. We’ll also stop at Kilt Rock, a sea cliff; you can decide for yourself how much it looks like a kilt!
As we leave Skye to return to the mainland we will see the Black and Red Cuillin Mountains and continue on towards our overnight stop in the lively, small village of Fort Augustus. Situated by the shores of Loch Ness, this is a wonderful place to spend the evening. Tonight we'll have a buffet dinner at our superior guest house.
Day 4: December 27
We start our final day hunting for Nessie with a boat cruise on the loch. You’ll hear the history of Loch Ness and the famous monster, and will also get beautiful views of Urquhart Castle – one of Scotland’s most photographed.
Our journey continues on beside Scotland’s deepest loch and goes towards Culloden battlefield, the site of the defeat of the Jacobite forces. On our route south we will pass the stunning Cairngorm Mountain range and be able to explore the lovely little Victorian village of Pitlochry.
We will then return back to Edinburgh and Glasgow and say goodbye to our new found friends.
