If you don’t like whisky (yet), don’t worry, there are plenty of choices instead of the optional distillery visits.
On leaving Edinburgh, your tour will head north across the Firth of Forth and the Forth Road Bridge. You will stop at the small village of South Queensferry first though, and here you will gaze in wonder at the incredible views of the iconic, late 18th century, Forth Rail Bridge. Continuing north, you will drive through the Kingdom of Fife, and towards the Highland Boundary Fault line.
The scenery will change dramatically as you make a stop at the stunning village of Dunkeld, clinging to the banks of the silvery River Tay. Here you can grab a coffee, take a stroll by the river and visit the famous 14th century cathedral.
Now we take a short drive north to the outskirts of the Victorian era village of Pitlochry. This is home to the Edradour distillery, one of the smallest and most traditional whisky distilleries in Scotland. Here you can take a guided tour, and learn more about the art of creating Scotland’s national drink. If you don’t fancy the distillery visit, our guide will take you into Pitlochry where you can explore the village, take a wee walk to the dam and salmon ladder or just do a bit of souvenir shopping.
After lunch, you will head to the famous site of the Queens View. Here you will have breathtaking views along Loch Tummel and up to the mountain of Schiehallion (where the mass of the earth was first calculated by the Astronomer Royal, Nevil Maskelyne, in 1774). After taking more photos than you probably should have, you will continue along the shores of this beautiful loch and along the back roads to Aberfeldy.
Here you will have the option to visit the Aberfeldy distillery, home to Dewars World of Whisky, and have a wee dram for the journey home. If that does not appeal to you, your guide will take you into Aberfeldy village for a look around, or for a short walk nearby.
Once you are suitably refreshed with Uisge Beatha (the Gaelic for whisky, literally meaning "Water of Life") you will continue along the back roads of Highland Perthshire, before rejoining the main route back to Edinburgh.
