Tour Description

Based within the Highlands, Speyside is it's on specific whisky region. It produces more than half the Scotch Whisky on the market. Speyside has some of the most well known distilleries, such as Glenfiddich, Glenlivet, Cardhu, Macallan, Aberlour and more. The Cairngorm Mountains frame the area giving it a very romantic highland feeling. We offer this customised tour to be tailor-made to include the distilleries of your choice. Speyside has a very rich heritage so we can include some local historic sights to experience the culture of Highland Scotland.

Below is our recommendation for a 3 day tour with some options...

Day 1 As we leave the big city we head towards the highland town of Crieff to visit the Oldest Distillery in Scotland. Glenturret has been producing Highland single malt whisky since 1775. It is an ingredient for Famous Grouse which is the most popular blended whisky in Britain. Blended whisky makes up for 90% of whisky sold in the world so we thought this would be a good introduction into the world of whisky. After the distillery tour you have the option to have an additional tasting in the Whisky University with either 3 single malt whiskies or 3 premium blends.

We then go to the highland resort town of Pitlochry to stop for lunch in this typical Victorian town. After lunch we give you the option to visit Blair Castle or go to Dalwhinnie for a whisky and chocolate comparing tasting. Blair Castle is a picturesque historic stately home in the highlands and seat of the Duke of Athol.

The overnight location will depend on availability but will most likely be Craigellachie, Aberlour or Grantown-on-Spey.

Day 2  Enjoy a full day exploring the Whisky Region of Speyside. First stop this morning is at Cardhu Distillery , which is an important ingredient to the famous Johnnie Walker whisky. The classic distillery tour will take you through the spirit making process from the mill, to the mashing and fermentation and finally to the copper stills. As an alternative we can take any member of the group to the nearby Knockando Woollen Mill.

After we make a brief stop to visit the shop at Macallan Distillery. It has become very well known in the past few years and one of the biggest producers of whiskies in Scotland including it's popular Macallan Gold. Here you will have a chance to purchase a bottle and if you are nice enough to the staff you might get a Wee Dram.

Then a special visit to the Speyside Cooperage and see these skilled workers in action. Being a Cooper is one of the most respected trades of the industry. Here the wooden casks arrive to be assembled into Barrels, Hog's Heads or Butts. The wood is then charred to bring the flavour of the wood (and previous liquid) to the surface.

We will go to Glenfiddich Distillery to have lunch in the Malt Barn Restaurant. Then after is an extensive tour of the distillery. Glenfiddich was the first whisky to successfully market itself as a single malt whisky and since 1963 has been the top seller of Scotch Malt Whisky in the world. As an option we give you time for the Solera Tour which includes a visit to Warehouse 8, the Malt Master's Suite and a sample of 4 cask whiskies (limited availability). As an alternative for the non-whisky drinkers we can take you to Ballindolloch Castle, home to the Macpherson-Grants since 1546.

We can offer many variations of this day so if there is a distillery you have in mind that is not above let us know and we will make some adjustments/substitutions.

Day 3 This morning we will first go to The Glenlivet. A pioneer is the legal whisky trade. It is said that George Smith was one of the first distillery in the area to get a licence. To protect his investment he carried 2 pistols wherever he went. At the distillery we offer you time for a tour/tasting, or if you'd rather not you can walk around the free exhibition. After we will go to Tomintoul and visit it's whisky shop, and see the biggest bottle of Single Malt Whisky in the World! 105.3 litres of Tomintoul 14 year old.

We then take a awe-inspiring mountainous scenic drive through the Lecht, past Corgarff Castle to reach the Highland Town of Braemar. Situated near Balmoral Castle , the Queen's Highland Holiday Home. Within the town of Braemar you will notice the plaques on the walls that give local establishments a Royal Grant. On the way we can stop and visit Crathies Kirk which is often used by the Royal Family. After lunch we make our way back to Edinburgh.

We can offer pick up from Glasgow on this tour. But if you are returning to Glasgow we suggest you take the train from Edinburgh that evening. Enquire for more details.
