The golf course at the Westerwood was designed by Seve Ballesteros and Dave Thomas, and is one of the best golf courses to be opened in Scotland in recent years.
Now the subject of a development programme designed to improve drainage and conditioning, the par-72 layout is stretched through silver birches and firs, and the heathland and heather that are so typical of Scotland. The architects have created many holes that are tournament style, and the course will challenge the ball-striking of even the best players.
Notable holes include the fourth and sixth, where Ballesteros and Thomas challenge their guests with treacherously positioned bunkers. However, the signature hole is without doubt the magnificent par-3 15th, set against the backdrop of a 60-foot quarry face with a devilish burn skirting the front of the putting surface.
