Tour Description

Head for the Northwest Scottish Highlands on this great sightseeing tour of Scotland: dramatic mountain views, wild history and a visit to the captivating Eilean Donan Castle as well as the chance to see Loch Ness. Enjoy an overnight stay in the Highland town of Fort William.

Day 1:
ROUTING: EDINBURGH/GLASGOW - STIRLING - DOUNE CASTLE - GLENCOE - FORT WILLIAM
From Edinburgh we head west to collect our Glasgow passengers, then travel past Stirling, catching a glimpse of its majestic Castle. We visit the Wallace Monument*, the towering stone testimonial to the Scottish legend William Wallace, which contains his 5ft 6in(1.7m) tall sword. Next we continue on, passing medieval Doune Castle, location for the film, “Monty Python & the Holy Grail”.

After lunch, a brief visit to Rob Roy’s Grave and then to the pretty village of Killin for photos. We continue our journey north via Tyndrum across the atmospheric Rannoch Moor, continuing to Glencoe, site of the 1692 massacre of the MacDonald Clan, for a brief walk and photos. We then continue to the stunning Glenfinnan Viaduct, made famous by the Harry Potter films, for a photo opportunity (Apr-Oct).

Our final stop is the Highland town of Fort William, where we check into our accommodation.

Day 2
ROUTING: LOCH NESS - EILEAN DONAN CASTLE - DUNKELD - EDINBURGH
After breakfast we head north into the Great Glen, a geographical fault line characterised by a chain of impressive lochs, including Loch Ness. We enjoy a photo stop at Glen Garry, before arriving at Eilean Donan Castle (interior closed in winter) for an optional visit, or to explore the castle and its beautiful setting.

Our journey continues with a stop for lunch and views of Loch Ness in the pretty lochside village of Fort Augustus. After lunch we start our descent to Edinburgh, enjoying a photo stop to admire Ben Nevis, Scotland’s highest mountain, at 1,343 metres.

We move then across country to Loch Laggan and the 900-foot Laggan Dam. Our journey south takes us past Scotland's highest distillery at Dalwhinnie, then through Perthshire, with time for a gentle woodland walk at The Hermitage, near Dunkeld, and before returning to Edinburgh via the Forth Bridges.

**Please note that on tours where the coach picks up customers departing from Glasgow, the route on Day 1 will be subject to change. If continuing to Glasgow on Day 2, your guide will take you to Edinburgh Waverley railway station for the 50-minute journey by train, courtesy of Timberbush.
