Tour Description

In addition to our Islay tour we are offering the opportunity to add-on another day to visit 2 whisky regions; Islay and Campbeltown.

Below is a suggested itinerary for a 4 day tour...

Day 1: Departing from Edinburgh or Glasgow we make our way to the Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond. Then we head towards the white washed town of Inverary. Inverary castle is home to Clan Campbell and the Duke of Argyll. A great piece of Georgian architecture it is still lived in by the family today. On the way your private guide will tell you stories of Clans, Highlanders, Vikings and Lord of the Isles. Your guide will also explain all you need to know about whisky by the time you get to the ferry port.

Day 2: Today we will head towards Port Ellen to the heavy smoky hitters of Lagavulin, Ardbeg and Laphroaig distilleries. Along the way we pass by the peat bogs used by the distilleries. Enjoy a unique Warehouse tasting at Lagavulin and learn how the wood influences the flavour. Then we will go to Ardbeg for lunch where you will also have a chance to have a few samples. The final distillery of the day is Laphroaig and a chance to see it's malting floor. If time we will also go to Kildalton Cross and hopefully see a few seals along the way.

Day 3: In the morning we will take the ferry back to the mainland arriving about 12 noon. We then head down to the second whisky region of the trip; Campbeltown. In the past there used to be about 30 distilleries here but most closed down due to the depression. Springbank is the only distillery in Scotland that still does its full production from start to finish. We will visit Springbank and Mitchell’s Glengyle distilleries while here. As an option we are offering the change to stay at Stonefield Castle.

Day 3:  We will leave the Kintyre Peninsula and head towards the famous port town of Oban. A very scenic day out with the highlights being the photo stops at Temple Wood Standing Stones, Loch Awe and Kilchurn Castle.
