Tour Description

This is a 3 day private tour taking in the highlights of the Isle of Arran and the mainland region of Argyll. With a chance to visit Brodick Castle, Inverary Castle and Arran Distillery.

Below is a suggested itinerary for a 3 day tour...

Day 1: Departing from Edinburgh or Glasgow we drive to the ferry port of Ardrossan for our crossing to Arran. First we visit Brodick Castle, once home to the Dukes of Hamilton, it is quintessential Victorian Highland estate. After you will then have time to shop at Arran Aromatics and Cheese Shop. Then we drive the String Road across the island. Towering above is Goatfell Mountain standing at 2,866ft (873.5m) high. Overnight at Blackwaterfoot, once a holiday spot since Victorian times

Day 2: In the morning we head to Machrie Moor Standing Stones. An ancient ritual centre during the prehistoric Bronze Age. It is about a 1 hour walk into total from the car park and back. After we go to visit Arran Distillery and sample the Water of Life. Before taking the short ferry to Kintyre we can visit the 13th century Lochranza Castle. Once on the mainland we drive through the West Highland region of Kilmartin Glen with another chance to see some standing stones. Overnight in the famous port town of Oban.

Day 3: Today we tour the West Highland region of Argyll. First heading towards the inspiring Loch Awe with Kilchurn Castle sitting on a small island in the middle of the Loch. We then stop to visit the white washed town of Inverary. A Georgian new town built in the late 18th century, around the same time the New Town of Edinburgh was built. The castle is home to Clan Campbell and the Duke of Argyll. A great piece of Georgian architecture it is still lived in by the family today. In the afternoon we have a scenic day taking in the mountainous landscapes of Rest and Be Thankful, Loch Long and Loch Lomond.
