Local Guides so you get maximum exposure to all that Edinburgh and Hogmanay has to offer plus a day trip to the Highlands! Great city, great scenery, great Guides and a great time – guaranteed.
Day by Day Itinerary:
Day 1: 29th December
Arrival day. Evening meet up with your Guide and trip mates, it’s time to get the Hogmanay festivities started and perhaps sample a few local beers in a couple of Edinburgh’s famous pubs. If you're arriving early and want some ideas about what to do in the city, pop in and see us in the Royal Mile for some ideas. We're the local experts!
Day 2: Highland Day Tour 30th Dec
Today you'll get a real taste of the Highlands. We leave the city and head north past the battlefields of Stirling where legends such as William Wallace and Robert the Bruce made their names. We visit a whisky distillery to try a dram and see how the 'water of life' is made. There may even be time for a snowball fight depending on the weather! Later, take in the official opening of the festival, the Torchlight Procession where you have the option to carry a torch along with thousands of other revellers! Don't miss our legendary Ceilidh for some traditional Scottish dancing, HAGGiS-style!
Day 3: Explore Edinburgh - 31st Dec Hogmanay!
We kick off the day with Aussie and Kiwi New Years with loads of fellow Antipodeans to celebrate with! Party on as the celebrations continue around the globe or enjoy a free afternoon to explore the capital and the wonders of the Winter Festival, the city centre is buzzing with rides, stalls and pop-up bars. Get ready for the main event, make sure you grab your Street Party ticket before heading to the best New Year celebration in the world! When the clock strikes 12 it’s your chance to kiss everyone you can get your hands on and wish them Happy Hogmanay!
Day 4: Loony Dook 1 st Jan 2013
No doubt there will be a few sore heads this morning but what better cure for a hangover than a Loony Dook! For almost thirty years, South Queensferry has played host to this insane event. Hundreds of, well... loonies, take to the freezing waters of the Firth of Forth, many of them in fancy dress and all of them up for a good time. This event helps to raise thousands of pounds for charity and with the impressive Forth Bridge in the background, this obscure tradition is an event not to be missed. After an optional ‘refreshing’ swim in the sea, we head back to the capital where you can join the Edinburgh's city wide activities. Tonight we have one final fling for those who are still up for it!
Day 5: Depart Edinburgh
Check out of your hostel in the morning. Before you leave be sure to breathe in the last of that fine Scottish air and appreciate the magnificent views of the city before heading off on your travels.
